The GO 6200 still has a crazy price tag and includes traffic alerts, whilst the GO620 has a decent price tag, but again no traffic alerts which you can get for free on the Garmin. The difference between new and old, not much. The TomTom GO 6100 which you can read the review here, became the TomTom GO 6200 and the GO 610 became the 620. Whilst we have tested a selection, the biggest problem we had, we still keep coming back to are top two brand names being TomTom and Garmin.Īt the beginning of 2018, TomTom updated their range of satnav units with both improvements and new models. They work okay, but are often really difficult to use, and have little or no update facilities. This leaves either the imports, or the supermarket devices, however I would not touch these.

Magellan the only other serious competitor in the navigator space, seems to have moved more into outdoor gps units. Google has improved its google maps, however I just find that unless you have a massive phone, you just cannot see the screen. The 'Other' manufactures just don't seem to be doing much these days. Out the these models, realistically, you're only ever going to buy the Garmin Drive or TomTom Basic if you want a cheap device, or the Garmin DriveSmart or TomTom Premium, if you want something with a few more features to help you get to your destination. TomTom has the Go Basic, GO Essential, GO Premium and GO Premium X. Garmin has the Drive, The DriveSmart and the DriveAssist.

Once you introduced TomTom in the equation, your head burst! We used to get soe confused talking about the different models, and that was just from Garmin. From Garmin you had a range of units that spanned 5-Inch, 6-Inch and even 7-inch screen, then there were model variations and even those with different map and traffic options. Three years ago we had to review and write about ten's of different units.

If we're totally honest, the range of navigators that you would actually buy has been reduced so much, its now down to four models. 2021 seems to be the year where the top two manufactures simply their range. We're six weeks into 2021 and already the Navigator market is really heating up with plenty of new models and an improvements. Overall a cracking device that is well worth the price. One point that is new this year is the TripAdvisor feature allowing you to view places of interest along your route whilst reading reviews from TripAdvisor from people who have been before.

The maps and directions have not improved much from previous models, but what has improved is the overall performance which is now hard to beat.Īs with all Garmin's your getting free lifetime map updates, free traffic alerts and if you connect it to your smartphone, hands-free calling and live drivers information. We specifically like the 6.95-Inch screen whilst having the same total dimensions of a standard 6-Inch device thanks to the edge-to-edge design. There might be better navigators on the market, but there are none that offer the value-for-money of the DriveSmart. It's a fantastic satnav that comes with everything you need to drive from point A to point B quickly and easily without getting stuck in traffic.
